In three groups of subjects with normotensive, moderate, and high-grade hypertensive patients, the plasma pituitary-vasopressin levels were compared at baseline and at a tilt of 85 ° in the horizontal position. As we all know, the head tilted 85 ° in horizontal position, is caused by the secretion of human pituitary hormone stimulation. Pituitary vasopressin levels increased by 2- to 5-fold in all subjects after head tilt. However, there was no significant difference between the three groups for either the basal level or the maximum value obtained after 45-60 minutes of tilting. These data do not support the hypothesis that pituitary vasopressin is the cause of non-accelerated essential hypertension in humans.
