The Eastwood Community was built by the New York State Urban Development Corporation (UDC) for low-income and middle-income families. It is located on the east bank of Roosevelt Island in the middle of the East River, facing the main street of the island in the west, and another set of residential buildings that were built at the same time in the southwest corner of the road. The plot occupies an area of about 2.4 hectares. There are 1003 houses of various types and the density is 418 households/ha. There are perfect public facilities in the community. Cars entering the island are parked in a centralized garage. The building is surrounded by three yards, where the original large trees, grasslands, paving areas and amphitheatre are located. From each yard, you can see the East River through the street towers. The four north-south apartments are designed in steps, from the six floors of the river to the twenty-second floor of the street. Along the street is a seven-storey building that allows the sun to shine in and avoid over-enclosed. The buildings along the street were singled out on the sidewalk to form a 300-meter-long arcade with shops on the side. The number of floors in the apartment is not as high as the standard in New York. The designer carefully avoids the use of a tower structure because it is not convenient for the layout of public facilities and it is dwarfed by the West of Manhattan. The best views from the island are the upper and lower reaches of the river. Most of the tall buildings have good views. There are about 300 homes designed specifically for the elderly in the Eastwood Community. There are two types of households, one-bedroom households and two-bedroom households, forming a T-shaped building in the middle of a yard. The old man’s house has a separate entrance hall and there is an elderly center.
