After World War I, in view of the tremendous suffering caused by the war to the peoples of the world, the Czechoslovak Red Cross Society first proposed holding a three-day “Red Cross Day of Descent” event each year. We should vigorously promote the humanitarian thinking of the Red Cross Society, enhance friendship and cooperation among peoples, promote world peace and reduce the danger of war. At the same time, publicity and education in the areas of health, relief, social welfare and so on are carried out in conjunction with the Red Cross Society’s business. The International Red Cross and its branches in various countries commemorate this day in various forms to demonstrate the international character of the Red Cross movement and the nature of Red Cross humanitarian work irrespective of ethnic, religious and political opinions.
