上海自开埠以后,城市发展进程巨大,人文历史内涵丰富,中西文化交融深厚,中国近代史上(主要为民国时期)许多重要的历史事件、著名人物均在上海留下了深刻的印记,故上海在中国近代史上具有重要而独特的地位。在这历史发展进程中,摄影作为精确记录现实的工具利器和最佳媒介,留存下了无数反映近代上海人文历史的老照片。其中,晚清至民国沪上照相馆拍摄的名人肖像照,更为今人研究民国历史提供了弥足珍贵的影像资料。
