In the process of literary creation, whether the author should follow the style inherited from the literary classics or whether he should follow the heart and personality is a proposition that Chinese and Western literary critics are keen to discuss. The two are complementary and mutually exclusive or inhibitory. This essay traces back to the origin of Western civilization and combs Plato ’s discussion of “Poetry ” and “Inspiration ” and contrasts it with the poem “Shi Zhi Zhi” discussed in the Book of Songs, the origin of Chinese literature , Hoping not only to get more and more comprehensive enlightenment and deeper explanation on this proposition from the perspective of literary criticism, but also to arouse the awareness of cultural exchange and cultural exchange from the cultural aspect and avoid the extreme viewpoints of cultural opposition.
