The authors cited sufficient materials to prove that prostaglandin (PG) is related to the bone marrow metastasis of cancer, and speculated that PG may involve the spread of cancer. Mammary gland specimens obtained from surgical resection of 82 women were used for pathological examination, and some tissues were removed from the tumor for PG study. Pathological examination confirmed 66 cases of breast cancer, 16 cases of benign tumors. Normal human breast tissue specimens were obtained from 23 breast masses. All specimens were cut into 5 to 15 milligrams of small bismuth and homogenized in an ethanol mixture (1/1) of Kreb’s solution acidified to pH 3 with formic acid at room temperature to measure the base amount of PG-like material, or Kreb’s solution is filled with oxygen containing 5% CO2 so that the tissue can still synthesize PG when homogenized. The content of the PG-like substance extracted in the homogenate of the Kreb’s solution is the total amount, and the total amount minus the basic amount is the total amount. The results are expressed in picogram equivalents per gram fresh tissue of PGE2. In all patients with malignant tumors, intravenous (99) hydrazine-labeled ethane-dihydroxy phosphorus was injected preoperatively and immediately after surgery.
