期刊数字化包括信息采编过程的数字化、期刊生产过程的数字化、产品的数字化、产品的数字化销售与服务、数字产品的利用等。学术类、技术类、科普类期刊的定位不同,其数字化的定位策略也不同。学术类期刊的数字化流程重前期轻后期,其数字化产品与利用的定位依赖海量数字资源库较重,而其营销定位则重社会效益,衍生产品或服务形式较少;相反,科普类期刊的数字化流程重后期利用,轻前期采编,其数字化产品与利用方面,重经济效益而衍生产品或服务形式较多。技术类期刊的数字化定位则介于两者之间。不管其近期目标如何,编辑出版流程数字化的长远目标都是重构数字化的编辑流程、构建全流程的数字化出版平台,以达到一次编辑、多次使用、多种产品的复合出版目的,实现双效期刊的终极目标。
