时间公元2000年12月3日至17日地点加去苗寨(位于黔东南苗族侗族自治州的榕江、从江以及黔南布依族苗族自治州的荔波、三都等四县交界处的月亮山深处) 缘由牯脏节是苗族人以“江略”(一种鼓社联盟的血缘氏族)为单位, 十三年一次杀牛祭祖的古老仪式。历经十五天繁复的仪式程序之后,加去苗人一夜之间杀掉69 头牯牛,将它们的灵魂奉献给祖先,全体分享了牛的身体。这个神圣的仪式,被称之为“吃牯脏”,每隔十三年举行一次。人物牯脏师。牯脏师是经过“破蛋”、看卦之后被选中的大祭司, 是“吃牯脏”仪式的主持人,在仪式中担当着沟通天地人之间的信使角色。
