藏语中“康”一词大约出于唐代,相对于卫藏(拉萨、日喀则)中心地带,“康”有边地或外地之意。历史上的康区并无固定的疆域,习惯上指西藏丹达山以东,东部与西昌、雅安及阿坝相连,南邻云南和缅甸,西接西藏,北与青海省玉树、果洛相接的一片区域。这一几乎从北、东、南三方环绕卫藏的地域无比广阔,足以称得上是“大地”。古老的山脊与湍急的河流相依相拥,险峻中蕴藏着美丽,贫困中孕育着富饶 。 康区大地山河秀美,草场广布,少有地理及精神方面的约束,众生都带有野性不驯的奔放气质。在这方水土的滋养下,康巴人不但体格健硕英武,人性中更多了自由豪迈的一面,尤其是康巴汉子们,心气之高,斗志之盛,绝不是劳作于田垄或伏身于写字间的人可与之比拟的。 无法在尺幅之内描画康巴藏区的自然风物和古往今来,横断山脉自行展现了一个多样性的世界:多样性的地貌,多样性的生物,多样性的生活,多样性的风采。大草原一年一度青绿,永久雪线上有不变的洁白,环绕着神山圣湖的身影依稀,格萨尔的传唱隐约响起,大山巨川,高天阔地,古往今来走过多少人群。这里注定是一片由神秘大自然主宰的高地,高地上注定有领略不尽的风景。
The word “kang” in Tibetan is roughly from the Tang Dynasty. Compared with the central area of Tibet (Lhasa and Shigatse), “kang” has the meaning of either side or outside. The historical Kham area does not have a fixed territory.
