“Who fears Virginia Wolfe” is the representative of American dramatist Edward Albi. By dramatizing the ancient religious exorcism ritual, the play reveals the highly developed material civilization in the United States and the gradual degradation of spiritual civilization toward the absurdity of destruction. This paper attempts to analyze the ritualization and absurdity of the play and explore the exploration and innovation of dramatists from the dramatic form to the dramatic theme during the gradual decline of drama in the postmodern evolutionary process.
