In a typical ABS system, each hub is loaded with a magnetoresistive sensor that is proportional to wheel speed. After filtering, eliminating interference, this speed signal is converted into a 5V digital signal suitable for a microcontroller (MCU). The MCU is part of an Electronic Control Unit (ECU) that ECUs collect from all wheel sensors to calculate whether each wheel is accelerating or decelerating and continuously determining if the hydraulic brake regulator needs to be energized to accelerate, slow down or maintain a constant Braking pressure. The ECU must also ensure that the brake pressure from each regulator is uniform and avoid unbalanced lockup that causes the vehicle to rotate.
