刘铁?同志的家庭出身系城市贫民,1952年参加安康汉剧团时,还是个十一岁的小孩,聪明伶俐,天真活泼.当时参加剧团只是为了演戏好玩,别的道理一点不懂.1953年参加了剧团文艺整风学习,才初步懂得了一点革命道理,明确了文艺工作者的光荣使命和工作的社会意义,从而才决心好好学习,立志要作个人民的好演员.但他本身条件较差,身体衰弱,嗓门不好,这给他在学艺上带来了很大的困难:练武吃力,练文难唱.1956年以前,在演出上他只是跑跑龙套,间或担任一些配角,虽也勉强演出过《小放牛》和《打猪草》,由于效果不大好,有些演员和学生曾为他的前途表示惋惜,也还有个别人主张他转业.
