先秦时期的先王崇拜是由祖先崇拜衍化而来的。先王崇拜主要表现为先王神圣化以及“法先王”思想的流行。面对春秋战国时期的混乱局面,当时的思想家在先王崇拜的浓厚社会氛围中,竞相提出了效法先王,实行“德治”的主张,但他们对“德”的阐释各不相同。儒家德治思想最终在争鸣中取得主导地位,对后世产生了深远的影响。
