美国东岸波士顿市人文气息浓厚,著名学府荟萃,戏剧、音乐、美术繁荣蓬勃,具有优越的文化发展先天条件。19世纪后期,哈佛大学波士顿图书馆和麻省理工学院为了展出所藏艺术品,倡议筹建波士顿美术馆(Museum of Fine Arts,Boston)。1870年该美术馆正式成立,但是直到1876年7月4日美国国庆口方才开馆。一个多世纪以来,波士顿美术馆的主要展览包括亚、非、欧、美和大洋洲等地区的艺术文物,种类包括绘画、雕塑、工艺、摄影、印刷及多媒材等,其馆藏集古今人类艺术之大成,被公认为美国最佳艺术博物馆之一。波士顿美术馆内藏品分亚洲艺术、埃及和近东艺术、希腊罗马艺术、欧洲装饰艺术、绘画素描、美国装饰艺术、印刷摄影、染织衣物和20世纪艺术九大部分。其中亚洲古艺术收藏在世界首屈一指,成为中、日收藏之外,海外最佳收藏地。
The cultural atmosphere of Boston on the east coast of the United States is strong. The well-known academic institutions, the flourishing drama, music and fine arts enjoy the superior cultural development. In the late 19th century, Harvard University Boston Library and Massachusetts Institute of Technology in order to exhibit the possession of art, initiative to build the Boston Museum of Fine Arts (Museum of Fine Arts, Boston). The art museum was officially established in 1870, but it was not until the 4th of July 1876 that the United States opened its doors. For more than a century, the major exhibitions of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts have included art relics in the regions of Asia, Africa, Europe, the United States and Oceania, including paintings, sculptures, crafts, photography, printing and multi-media, Dacheng, is recognized as one of the best art museums in the United States. The Museum of Art in Boston contains nine major parts: Asian Art, Egyptian and Near East Arts, Greek and Roman Art, European Decorative Arts, Sketch Paintings, American Art Deco, Print Photography, Dyed Garments and 20th Century Art. Among them, the ancient art collection in Asia is second to none in the world and become the best place to collect overseas collections outside China and Japan.
