一段时期以来,在讨论图书馆要面向社会,提供更多更好的服务时,有些文章把“藏”与“用”这一图书馆业务工作中的矛盾问题理解为封建藏书楼与当代图书馆两者间的区别标志,进而得出“为藏而藏”是封建时代藏书楼旧观念这么个似是而非的推论。古人已不能站起来申辩,今人则无须为此承担罪责,仪需“肃清封建余毒”即可,自然无人深究。久而久之,推论似乎成了不争的事实。凡逢图书馆界提出或采取某种社会服务的新举措,便自然而然地把封建藏书楼联系起来批上一番。在图书馆界、文化界,乃至新闻报道中已经成为一种公式化语言。但审诸古今史实,“为藏而藏”是封建时代藏书楼的旧观念这一推论实难令人苟同。
