天麻又名赤箭,属蓝科(Orchida Ceae)植物,产于云南、四川、贵州、陕西、安徽及湖北等地,药用干燥块茎,系我国贵重的中药。两千多年前《神农本草经》早已记载了天麻的功效,天麻“久服益气力长”。明朝李时珍《本草纲目》记载:“天麻辛、温、无毒。久服益气,轻身长年”,治疗“语多恍惚,善惊失忘”。亦有文献记载天麻能“熄风定惊”。化学成分早期研究:1936年 Mar 及 Read 二氏测定天麻含维生素 A,含量为
