In ventilation and drying system design, the resistance of the material to the air flow is an important and significant issue. Shedd as early as 1951, 1953 had studied and reported a variety of grain and other seeds on the air flow resistance. He believes that different types of seed flow resistance values vary widely, depending on the size and shape of the grain. For the same type of seed, the resistance is also different due to the different water content and packing density. There are now three different types of paddy cultivated in the United States, namely long-grain, medium-grain and short-grain. The characteristic difference for each type of rice is the length and aspect ratio of the grain. Typical specifications for various types of kernels are found in Agriculture Handbook, No. 289 (U.S.A.
