The current voluntary blood donor recruitment in the Philippines has encountered difficulties. According to statistics from the Philippine Ministry of Health in 1988, there are 155 licensed blood banks in all of the Philippines, including one National Blood Center, 129 blood banks in the hospital, and 25 commercial blood banks. Commercial blood banks and most hospital blood banks always give preference to professional blood donors, but occupational blood donors often conceal their medical history and cause blood transfusions.
