Both Iconicity and Metaphor belong to two important research topics under the framework of Cognitive Linguistics. Hiding behind these two linguistic phenomena is a common cognitive mechanism, and poetry is full of iconicity and metaphor Make poetry has a strong expressive force. This thesis takes poetry as the research object, cites Peirce’s semiotics theory and Fauconnier and Turner’s theory of conceptual integration to analyze the formation and interpretation of object similarity and metaphor in visual and auditory levels. Metaphor is the mapping between conceptual domains. It is the induction and integration of cognitive mechanism in the thinking level. Iconicity is the mapping of language between symbols and meanings. It is the cognitive mechanism that induces and establishes the relationship between the signifier and the signified which performed. Both belong to different stages of the process of language generation and interpretation, and are all driven by a common cognitive mechanism.
