涂装在提高汽车耐蚀性方面起着重要作用。随着汽车制造业的发展,汽车涂装已是重要的汽车制造工艺之一。许多国家颁布了汽车涂层的防蚀基准,如达不到基准要求,用户有索取赔偿的权利。因此,多年来汽车表面处理工作者已经进行了多种多样的腐蚀控制研究工作。进入80年代后,腐蚀研究的重点转移到了保护层领域。一般认为涂层下金属的腐蚀是以电化学方式进行的,腐蚀发生的可能性由下列三个主要因素所决定。
