P-47“雷电”刚问世时虽然不被人们所看好,但在战争中表现出色,后成为二战中美军的主力装备,曾驰骋于欧洲和太平洋战场,上演了一幕幕惊心动魄的空中战斗故事,取得了突出的战绩。据史料记载,在整个第二次世界大战中,P-47型飞机共发射子弹13500万发,投弹132000吨和发射火箭60000枚,击毁敌机6998架(包括空中和地面)、机动车61000辆、坦克8000辆、火车840列、炮塔5000座和桥梁688座,给敌方以沉重打击,使轴心国的武器装备、设施和人员造成巨大伤亡。当然,在一开始也遇到过初师不利的情况。
