The excitability of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra pars compacta(SNc)that supply the striatum with dopamine determines the function of nigrostriatal system for motor coordination.Our previous study showed that 4-pyridinylmethyl-9(10H)-anthracenone(XE991),the specific blocker of Kv7/KCNQ channels,could enhance the excitability of nigral dopaminergic neurons,resulting in attenuation of Parkinsons disease(PD)catalepsy elicited by systemic haloperidol administration.
