The 3-Gorges Dam (TGD) has largely changed the hydraulic condition of the Yangtze river.This inevitably has altered sediment transport and river channel morphology downstream.The present study has assembled a database of flow and sediment data and used them to analyze the post-dam river channel changes.Entrapment of a large amount of sediments from the upstream in the reservoir has caused only 1/10 of the sediment load to reach the Middle Yangtze basin.Thus,the potential sediment carrying capacity has been raised dramatically.
