  The dried stem of Sinomenium acutum (Thumb.) Rehd.et Wils.(Menispermaceae) is a traditional Chinese medicine, which was used to treat rheumatic and autoimmune diseases.Alkaloids (such as sinomenine, magnoflorine and curin) were main bioactive compositions of Sinomenium acutum.Therefore, it is significant to separate and detect alkaloids in Sinomenium acutum to extend its application.At present, several methods including high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and capillary electrophoresis with ultraviolet detection (CE-UV) have been reported for the analysis of alkaloids in Sinomenium acutum.However, the disadvantage of the above methods seems to be time-consuming due to necessary extraction and concentration.Recently, CE with chemiluminescence (CL) detection method has received great attention, especially for the CL reaction between acidic potassium permanganate with phenolic compounds.
