  Fused silica capillary columns coated with functionalised quaternary ammonium latex particles have been prepared for use in on-line preconcentration of anions.The coated capillary was prepared by pumping several capillary volumes of dilute suspension of triethylamine amination polychloromethyl styrene latex particles at 50 mbar for 30 min through a 50 cm (50 μm ID, 41.5 cm to the detector window) long section before waiting for 30 min, followed by flushing water at-50 mbar for 30 min, repeated 2 times (the last time without flushing water).Then, the latex-coated capillary was placed in oven at 80℃ for 24 h.The capillary electrophoresis method was optimized with the running buffer of 20 mM Tirs/10 mM HClO4 (pH 7.19), and the applied separation voltage of-20 kV.Under the detection at 235 nm, the electroosmotic flow (thiourea as an EOF marker) was-23.24 × 10-5 cm2/V s, and the relative standard deviation (RSD) was 4.0% (n=5).The results indicated that the latex-coated capillary could be used for on-line preconcentration and detection of anions, while its stability was favorable.
