HER2 gene encodes a type of protein with tyrosine kinase activity, which is a member of the epidermal growth factor receptor family.HER2-encoding protein can enhance kinase activity and promote cell differentiation and proliferation.HER2has an important function in the signal transduction pathway,which activates intracellular tyrosine kinase and the subsequent chain reactions.Amplification of HER2 was observed in breast cancer.Invasion and metastasis are lethal among breast cancer patients.However, the gene that specifically manipulates invasion and metastasis remains unclear.Overexpression of HER2 gene, which is closely related to breast cancer metastasis,is an independent risk factor in breast cancer.HER2 has great potential in both gene-specific treatment and neoadjuvant therapy of breast cancer.The anti-HER2 medicine herceptin has been widely used in clinical therapy for breast cancer.
