Surface-enhanced Raman scattering(SERS)is a powerful analytical tool that yields fingerprint vibrational information with ultra-high sensitivity. However, only roughened Ag,Au and Cu surfaces can generate strong SERS effect, which had limited the breadth of practical applications in a variety of fields.Shell-isolated nanoparticle-enhanced Raman spectroscopy(SHINERS)[1] was therefore invented to break the long-standing limitations of SERS.In SHINERS,the plasmonic Au/Ag core provides high electromagnetic field to enhance the Raman signals of target molecules, while the ultra-thin,uniform and pinhole-free silica shell separates the Au/Ag cores from the system under study and ensures no interference from processes.
