在上世纪20至30年代,天津抗日名报《新天津报》曾以报纸为平台开办过新闻函授学校。遗憾的是,开校仅几个月,就随天津沦陷而结束了。办校时间虽不长,但新天津报以报纸为讲堂,成功地向社会各界普及了新闻学基础知识、新闻职业道德观、新闻监督意识、写作技巧和从业经验,积累了新闻学校以报纸函授面向民众的成功经验。
