Face-saving Theory,which is proposed by Brown and Levinson in 1978,emphasizes the universality of people to attach importance to“face”and to adopt strategies to save face.How to reserve face for each other and hold successful conversations are important in interpersonal communication.Comparing the similarities and differences in compliments in Chinese and English,this paper aims to help people become aware of the similarities and differences between Chinese and English in daily communication,so as to promote inter-cultural communication.
