1975年3月21日,来自沈阳的12次特快列车停靠在北京站。黄维回到了阔别七年的北京,与他同车抵达的是第七批、也是最后一批特赦的293名战犯。作为这批特赦战犯的第一名,黄维代表293名战犯,给中共中央和毛主席写了一封感谢信,并在3月23日招待宴席上宣读。这封信后来由叶剑英带给了毛泽东。毛泽东看后批示,要求转发全国县团级以上干部阅读。这一年,黄维71岁。“我是罪大恶极的战犯,解放后受到宽大和改造??”2010年9月29日下午5时,黄维平静而显苍老的话语从一台老式的卡带录音机里传了出来。这是1980年代国际台录制的对台广播,音色未变,斯人已去。
