我与方闻有70年的亲密友谊,惊闻老友于1996年3月1日仙逝美国寓所,我曾向方夫人王忱女士发去慰问唁函,不久接到复信,内统老友人殓、移灵、弥撒等六张照片,目睹慈祥遗容,哀痛之余不顾年老体衰,白内障严重等困难,决心根据“三亲”精神,并参考老友《九十自述》来写这篇怀念文章,以表彰其诚信待人、勤奋好学、朴素生活、奉公守法、照顾全局的优良品质与其弘扬中华文化的学术著述及其爱国爱乡的捐献活动,好寄托自己的哀思。
