《人生百态》是林风眠晚期最具代表性的作品之一,它在表现主题和创作手法上都有许多创新之处。作品的笔墨线条粗犷奔放,画面色彩的运用十分纯熟,富有表现力。林风眠通过这组作品将西方绘画的主题,与中国传统绘画的笔墨技巧完美地结合在一起。与其他晚期作品不同的是,《人生百态》组画意在展现林风眠本人的悲惨遭遇,并且体现了他内心的痛苦挣扎,承载了许多私人的情感,所以它可以看作是林风眠迟暮之年对已走过的漫长人生进行的真切表白。
