在97年的PC产品中,最出“彩儿”的当属各种品牌的MMX多能奔腾机了.1月9号,Intel正式发布了它采用MMX(多媒体指令扩展MultiMedia Extention)技术的Pentium CPU产品P55C,融合MMX技术,代号Klamath的Pentium Pro CPU将在年中推出.据称,未来的Intel架构的处理器都会采用MMX技术.MMX是Intel体系结构为适应多媒体和通信应用日益膨胀的需要而提出来的.它被视为是两年前夭折的Intel NSP技术(自然信号处理Nature Signal Processor)的“复活”.MMX采用了SIMD(单指令流与多数据流SingleInstruction Stream-Multiple Data)技术,将57条多媒体运算指令固化在CPU中.增加了8个64位寄存器和四种适应多媒体运算的数据类型以及16KB的内部Cache.MMX对音频、视频信号都实现了“打包”处理,使之分别从4位变成16位,8位变成64位数据处理.与相同时钟频率的普通Pentium处理器相比,融合了MMX技术
