According to the Ministry of Labor Mines Bureau notification, the national mine casualties in 1997 showed a general downward trend, but from the analysis of various incidents, there have been some new situations, the situation is still not optimistic about the safety of production. According to preliminary statistics, there were 6,521 casualties in the mines (including those with undocumented mines) in 1997, with 10877 deaths. Compared with the previous year, the number of accidents and deaths decreased by 23.61% and 10.84% respectively. The number of deaths from mines in China was 3,066, an increase of 1.86% as compared with that of the previous year. The death toll in collective ownership and private mines dropped by 13.23% and 2.66% respectively over the previous year. In the mine casualties, coal mine casualties are very prominent, 9066 coal mine accidents in 1997, accounting for 83.35% of the total number of deaths from mining accidents. In the area where the accidental coal mine occurred, except for the provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) in Shanghai, Tianjin, Ningxia, Qinghai and Hainan (except Tibet), all the other provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) suffered more than 10 deaths in 1997 Among them, Guizhou, Shanxi, Henan, Jiangxi and Hunan provinces are particularly prominent. In particular, Guizhou Province has 21 such accidents and 347 deaths, accounting for 20.59% of the total number of such incidents and deaths nationwide respectively. with
