菜板,日用厨具,一般为方形或长方形木板,厚约三四厘米,材质以柳木居多,两面都可用。菜板可以切菜切肉,也可以当砧板剁骨头、切肉、剁馅子。跟现在的年轻人说切菜板原来是带腿的,恐怕不会相信,但在两千多年前却是实事。那时人们席地而坐,还没有出现现代家具,菜板的形状就像一只小板凳,切菜时在下面放一个盆或盘子,板凳面就是菜板。切肉、切菜、刮鱼鳞、做鱼鲙等刀功就在板凳上施展,名之为“俎”。这在出土的汉代画像石和陶厨俑中较为常见。
