Objective: To study the role of triglyceride (TG) and intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) in the pathogenesis of diabetic ulcer in diabetic rats. Methods: The diabetic SD rats were given intraperitoneal injection of medium dose of streptozotocin (STZ) and high fat diet to establish the model of diabetes. At the end of the 8th week, all the rats’ lower extremities were smeared with acetic acid to establish diabetic ulcer model. Rats were taken and fasting blood glucose, TG, insulin, ICAM-1 and body weight were measured. Results: After the injection of STZ, rats showed obvious symptoms of polydipsia, polyuria and fasting insulin levels. The levels of TG and ICAM-1 in diabetes mellitus and ulcer group were significantly higher than those in other groups. However, there was no significant difference between normal control group and ulcer control group The difference was not statistically significant between TG and ICAM-1. Conclusion: ICAM-1 and TG may play an important role in the development of diabetic foot ulcer.
