Summer in July is sundry. The temperatures of Shanghai. Wuhan and Nanjing were reported to reachnearly 40 degrees Celsius. Continuous heat has created a great demand for air conditioners. Shenzhen is alsoin summer. Shenzhen has a long but relatively mild summer, with not so scorching heat. It’s temperature hasrarely exceeded 32 degrees Celsius. There’s even one preferential policy for Shenzhen. No matter how hot itis in the day, nighttime is pretty cool, with sea breezes gently bringing you to dreamland. Anyhow, heat hasn’t prevented people from thinking and working. Instead, they seem to be thinking ina much more profound way, which can be proved by a number of good articles in this issue. Articles in this issue can be divided into three categories, about economic issues of Shenzhen and otherspecial zones and development zones, about Hong Kong’s economy, and about the Asian financial crisis.
