Based on the deconstruction of the image of the Ned Kelly murderous thug and jungle bandit deeply rooted in colonial discourse, the novel reinstates his identity as a national heroes and freedom fighters against colonialism and oppression. Based on Bakhtin’s double-discourse theory, this dissertation identifies and analyzes the performance and tactics of the double voices in “Kelly’s True History” and reveals the clever use of double voices to deconstruct colonial discourse and to reconstruct the identity of Australian national cultures And meaning.
