1944年7月初,笔者奉派往无锡协助某化工厂开工。这是一个专做氯化钾和氯酸钾的电气化学厂,自各种柴灰提取钾盐,用食盐经电气氧化以制氯酸钠,然后利用复分解反应来制造氯酸钾。氯酸钾在中国化学工业上,最主要的用途是作火柴的原料,每年销用量在数千吨以上,这是大家熟知的事。氯酸钠在国内目下为重要的氧化剂,在漂染厂内应用颇广,这也是在纺织工业界内熟知的事。笔者在动身以前,曾费了几天翻读各种文献和有关资料,研读该工业各方面的有关问题,有一天在C.(?).Mantell 所著参考书上读到“氯酸钠为重要的Weed Killer,近年在农业上应用颇广”这么一句,我滞住了,我还不知道什么是Weed Kill-
In early July 1944, I was sent to Wuxi to help a chemical plant to start. This is an electrochemical plant specializing in potassium chloride and potassium chlorate.
