4. Injection Molding 4.1 Molding Cycle The simplest and most commonly used injection mold is composed of two parts mounted on the injection machine table. Regardless of how the mold is designed, it always contains two basic parts, the fixed mold for injection and the movable mold for the top plastic. These two parts are also often referred to as the negative and positive molds respectively. When the molding material is injected into the cavity and cured, the mold is opened at the parting surface. Normally, when the movable mold is just opened, plastic parts and sprue waste remain on the movable mold side. As the mold continues to be opened, the top plate is pushed by the top rod fixed to the side of the injection molding machine clamping mechanism to begin the demolding. Due to the ejector mechanism, plastic parts and sprue waste are pushed out of the moving mold. The ejection mechanism will not return to its original position until it is closed again.
