初读梁启超,我们的用意很功利,就是看他如何批评中国的国民性,所以我们首先拜读《新民说》。此前我们多是根据鲁迅“国民性批判”的论调,来推测梁启超的观点和态度。《新民说》的思想和气质,大异于鲁迅。梁任公的论说,远非义愤之词,而是从历史文化、地理风水、社会结构、政治制度等方面,体认中国国民性格的特征,并进而思考:需要通过怎样的改造和调整,才能有助于中国的社会变革。
