R & D magazine awarded the Laureate of a 1990 scientist to a scientist at the forefront of cancer research. Nearly half a million Americans die each year from cancer. Steven A. Rosenberg, director of surgery at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Maryland, combines his skills in the operating theater with imaginative, creative, and occasionally controversial research together. Rosenberg was once a new treatment - inherited immunotherapy, also known as pioneer of cell-transfer therapies. From the implication of this therapies include removing the cells from the immune system in the patient’s body, modifying them to more effectively deal with the particular condition of the patient, and then reinjecting them into the patient’s immune system and attacking the portion of the cell causing the disease .
