The actin cytoskeleton mediates many of the necessary biological functions in all eukaryotes. In addition to providing the structural framework necessary to determine cell shape and polarity, the actin cytoskeleton, particularly its kinetic changes, is also closely linked to processes such as cell motility, division, adhesion, and phagocytosis. The RhoGTPase family is an important protein involved in many cell signal transduction pathways. Members of the family of RhoGTPases are key regulators of the membrane surface receptors and actin cytoskeleton and function as molecular switches. In response to extracellular signals, they induce corresponding changes in actin cytoskeleton tissue to trigger a number of biological responses including morphogenesis, chemotaxis and axon orientation.
