以桑果高产、优质为目标,采用辐射诱变育种方法培育果用桑树新品种。对广东桑品种伦教408刚萌动的桑芽,以总剂量为0.06~0.08 kGy,剂量率为1 Gy/min的60Co-γ连续照射,然后将处理的桑芽进行单芽嫁接分离,选择形态出现变异的单株连续观察,对花果多的单株进一步培育,最终选育出果用桑树新品种红果2号。多年品种比较试验鉴定和区域试验鉴定中,红果2号的桑果产量分别比对照果桑品种粤椹大10(大10)提高39.33%和31.97%,其果实品质较好,维生素C以及Ca、Fe、Zn的含量极显著高于大10,适合鲜食和加工。红果2号的综合性状优良,是具有推广潜力的果用桑树新品种。
