2001年10月5日《人民日报》发表署名文章称“每当看到《当代工人》中工人们团团围坐,诉衷肠、提建议,主人翁般地侃侃而谈时;每当看到《第二起跑线》中,年轻活泼的中学生们两阵对垒,或问或答或唱或跳时,就禁不住地想,我们农民为啥不能在电视上谈谈政策条文,叙叙家长里短,诉诉心中委曲,说说美好希望呢?我们农民为啥不能有个如亲友、师长一样的富有影响力的主持人呢?……给农民办个谈话节目吧!我们也希望在面对面的谈话中,得到尊重,得到沟通,得到知识,进一步理解做人与处世、致富与守法、文明与愚味……”
