It is well known that the main factors influencing the formation of alkaloids in Burley are: the rainfall, the amount and source of nitrogen, the height of the topping and the harvesting time in each season. Recent studies have shown that the interrelationship between cultivars and climate is also an important factor affecting the formation of alkaloids. Tobacco alkaloids growing in rainy seasons (with more precipitation than average) are low and dry in seasons (precipitation is below average)
