“The Witch of Salem” is a play by American dramatist Arthur Miller on the theme of ancient times. “The Witch of Salem” ostensibly refers to a case that took place in a small town in the United States 300 years ago. It actually mirrors McCarthyism, popular in the United States in the 1950s, and points to any form of political persecution. This article begins with a close reading of “The Witch of Salem” and explores the values of life at Arthur Miller as reflected in her works.
