Although the population of Paris is declining, the amount of rubbish in the cities has tripled in half a century. In 1930, the daily waste was 1,000 tons; in 1980, it was as high as 3,000 tons. However, a more worrying issue than the rubbish growth is that today, no matter what the packaging, you can throw it on the street. Faced with this gray wave, the Paris Metropolitan Government is struggling to think about countermeasures. What price would they pay? In the past year, Marseille spent a total of 476 million francs in cleaning rubbish, 400 million in Lyon, and 1.3 billion in Paris. And the cost is still on the rise, with a “clean” budget of 1.6 billion francs in Paris this year.
