According to the “Nature” magazine reported that Japan's new “Institute of Advanced Institute of International Studies” opened last week, it is located in the hills between Osaka, Kyoto and Nara in a green environment. The institute aims to be the “intellectual center” of the Kansai Cultural and Science City, which is being gradually built up between the three cities. It follows the example of the Princeton University Institute of Advanced Studies in the United States and was advocated by former president Daito Okamoto of Kyoto University. A few years ago, the headquarters of the IAS was temporarily located in Kyoto. Kyoto Prefecture and some private agencies have already invested 1 billion yen for its construction.
