在国产故事片的创作生产中,蒙古族故事片的创作既有一定的数量,也有较鲜明的民族文化特点。由于受到社会政治环境和文艺政策等方面的影响,蒙古族故事片的创作在不同的历史阶段具有一定的差异性,体现了不同的时代特征和不同的文化内涵。从20世纪50年代至70年代,其创作着重表现草原政治文化;到80年代至新世纪,其创作既表现草原政治文化,又着重探讨草原伦理文化、历史文化、生态文化等内容,呈现出日益多元化的发展趋势。同时,从革命现实主义到诗意现实主义,其创作方法也在艺术实践中发生了一定的变化。特别是新世纪以来,不少创作者擅长以诗意现实主义的方法着重表现蒙古族普通民众的生活、理想与追求,在银幕上生动地展现了草原文化的艺术魅力,由此形成了与其他民族电影不同的艺术形态与美学风格。
